Each vehicle encodes data differently, which means we have to work car by car to bring data to users. Many cars that connect to DIMO won&apos;t see much data, for now. Even things as simple as fuel level and odometer may not work right away. New software is deployed to devices often, and updating your device is often the key to getting more data. The device will update automatically when you end a drive. The surest way to kick off an update is to drive to a location with great cell reception and turn off your car. The update usually takes 5-10 mins and you will see a rapidly flashing green light during the update. You should never have to take a special trip to update your car, but in these early stages, it may be required. Generally, after a device receives its first update, it should update more smoothly and connect to cell networks more easily going forward.</div></div></div>

Based on Bluetooth limitations, AutoPi 5.2 devices cannot use this feature. You must be the owner of the Vehicle ID (in your wallet) to read error codes using a DIMO hardware device. Checklist to get started<ul><li>Get in your vehicle&apos;s driver&apos;s seat.</li><li>Have your phone with DIMO Mobile ready.</li><li>Turn on Bluetooth on your mobile device.</li><li>Make sure your DIMO hardware device is plugged in.</li><li>Start with your engine off.</li></ul> Step 1 - Set up<ul><li>Open DIMO Mobile on your phone.</li><li>Ensure you have the correct vehicle selected. If you need to switch vehicles, click the hamburger menu on the top left of your screen.</li><li>Scroll down and select the error codes tile. The tile is among your vehicle signals.</li></ul> If you have never used this feature before, you will have no historical scans. Step 2 - Starting the engine &amp; enabling accessory mode<ul><li>With your engine off, tap to start a scan.</li><li>Start your engine when the app prompts you.</li><li>Bring your car into an accessory mode when the app prompts you. The accessory mode can be reached by turning your keys backward one clicks from your engine being on. If you have a push to start a car, push the button to turn the engine off without opening any doors.</li></ul> Do not drive your vehicle&#xA0;while attempting to read your error codes. Step 3 - Establishing a Bluetooth connection<ul><li>Your phone will ask you to enable Bluetooth. Please do so, as the hardware device will communicate the data back to you through this connection.</li><li>Watch the screen for an additional Bluetooth prompt. After about 30 seconds, the prompt will present itself. Please click connect when you see this.</li><li>After enabling the Bluetooth connection both times listed above, your scan will commence. The full scan may take around 3 minutes.</li></ul> If a Bluetooth connection is unable to be established, please restart this guide from Step 2, including turning your vehicle&apos;s engine completely off. The AutoPi hardware device has a short Bluetooth bonding time to not drain the car&apos;s battery. Turning your car off and back on again will wake up the AutoPi. Step 4 - Making sense of your codes<ul><li>After a scan of error codes, feel free to explore what codes were read and what they mean.</li><li>If applicable, try using a marketplace partner to fix your issue.</li><li>If you wish to see previous scans, you will be able to go back and look at historical scans. Utilize this when your mechanic asks for previous issues with your vehicle.</li><li>If you are interested in clearing your error codes, go ahead and click &quot;clear codes.&quot;.</li></ul> Clearing your error codes from the dashboard will only last during your current drive. When your vehicle turns off and on again, your vehicle&apos;s computer will reset and throw the codes again.

What steps can I take if I am having connectivity issues?<ul><li>Make sure that the green light on your device is going solid, a blinking light will not let you connect.</li><li>Power cycle the device. Unplug it and plug it back into the vehicle. This is often enough to fix the issue. Afterward, make sure the green light goes solid, take a short drive through an area with good cell reception, and confirm if the last update date has changed.</li><li>With a pin, pop out the SIM card from your DIMO device and put it in your phone. See if the phone gets any cell reception. Then take the SIM card out of your phone and put it back into the DIMO device. See if the green light is now going solid and if the device is updating correctly. Remember to go for a short drive in an area with good cell reception.</li><li>Contact us at support@dimo.zone for further assistance. </li></ul> If you are still having trouble, write to us again and let us know if you were able to connect via Wi-Fi so that we can take a look into your account.

Where can I find my car&#x2019;s OBD2 port? The OBD2 port is usually under the front console on the driver&#x2019;s side of the vehicle, but there can be a lot of variation from car to car. Check out this link to identify where your OBD2 port is. Can I use this with my another plug-in device? Vehicles only come with one OBD2 port, but we have validated in the alpha fleet that OBD-II splitters like this model will work on all cars tested so far. In the future, DIMO will work to build partnerships with insurance companies so that you can provide them with the data they would need to offer discounts (but no other data!). Connectivity The device seems to lose cell connectivity a lot (flashing green light)? We use Twilio which should check most networks (other than Verizon). A few points of note:<ol><li>We continue to improve the ability of the device to connect and as the device updates, it should connect more rapidly.</li><li>The device does save data when not connected to prevent data loss (still being connected all the time is ideal)</li><li>Depending on where it is installed in your car, it can have more or less trouble connecting. I installed and paired it but DID NOT mint the Vehicle ID: If a user deletes the integration they may move the device to a different vehicle in their account. I paired the device AND minted a Vehicle ID: You will be able to move and re-pair the device but you will not be able to mint another Vehicle ID. Operations Will the device cause any issues for my car? Is it safe? DIMO does compatibility testing with all vehicles we support. DIMO-approved 3rd party hardware devices are currently passive listeners only. This means that they cannot be used to control your vehicle. Will it drain my car battery? The device goes into a low-power sleep mode shortly after you stop driving, so you will not see any vampire battery drain from the device. What does this mean? We have heard a few reports from users where after plugging in their device, they get a notification (usually email) from their automaker about something affecting connected services. Usually, these are non-specific (they detect some data anomaly) but sometimes they specifically call out OBD2 devices as being capable of interfering with safety and monitoring services.<ol><li>We and our partners have done extensive testing across thousands of vehicles and many years. We&apos;ve found no indication that the device will ever disrupt any critical or non-critical functions on the vehicle.</li><li>This is one of the things we want to fix. As a user, you will sign the data with your wallet and DIMO will validate the signature when data is received. Data is watermarked for third-party consumers. How are you going to get CAN codes? DIMO is an open-source supporter and contributor, building on projects like openDBC, CANserver, and CANBusHack to compile and maintain a library of CAN codes. Is it always connected? The device is always connected. As mentioned above it only uses a tiny amount of power and won&#x2019;t drain your battery at all. Can I use it to turn my car on? Turning your car on is not currently supported. It is possible to add this functionality for certain vehicles in the future. Who is paying for the cellular costs? DIMO is paying for the cellular costs of transmitting data from your vehicle for at least 12 months. The DIMO DAO will decide how ongoing costs will be handled after the initial 12-month period. What happens if I&#x2019;m driving in an area without cellular reception? The data will be saved on the device until you return to an area with cellular connectivity. How are OEMs responding? My OEM emailed me saying that I might lose connected services on my vehicle! OEMs (original equipment manufacturers) are sending out emails to users letting them know that they may restrict access to services users have paid for because they do not like having anything plugged into the diagnostic port. This includes, but is not limited to, insurance plugs, diagnostic dongles, and of course, the DIMO device. They are threatening users with restrictive access and disabling services in their respective mobile apps. These are services that users are paying extra for. Beta support means that your vehicle may not have all of its data decoded. We are actively working on decoding more vehicles. So you may see limited data at that time.
