Why did I receive an email from my OEM about safety issues/losing connected services?Updated a month ago
Some users have reported receiving notifications (often via email) from their OEMs (original equipment manufacturers) after plugging in their device, indicating potential issues affecting connected services, including those that users have paid for, because they do not like having anything plugged into the diagnostic port. This includes, but is not limited to, insurance plugs, diagnostic dongles, and of course, the DIMO device.
These notifications are usually vague, noting a data anomaly, but sometimes they specifically mention OBD2 devices as potentially interfering with safety and monitoring systems. They are threatening users with restricted access and disabling services in their respective mobile apps, which are services that users are paying extra for.
Current OEMs that have sent out these emails are:
- Subaru STARLINK
- Onstar Mazda Connected services
- Mercedes
However, extensive testing with our partners across thousands of vehicles over many years has shown no evidence that these devices will disrupt any critical or non-critical functions in your vehicle. DIMO-approved third-party hardware devices are designed to be passive listeners only, meaning they cannot control your vehicle in any way.
